Staying in Colaba
Sea-facing rooms on P J Ramchandani Marg (Apollo Bunder) are the most expensive real estate in the file — expect ₹18,000 to ₹32,000 a night at the Taj Mahal Palace and its neighbours, more during December. The value band sits one block inland on Mandlik Road, Best Marg and Nathalal Parekh Marg, where good mid-range doubles run ₹7,000 to ₹12,000 and you still walk to the Gateway in six minutes. Guest houses on Arthur Bunder Road and Henry Road do ₹3,500 to ₹6,000, often with no lift and shared corridors. Avoid rooms with windows directly over the Causeway: hawker noise and horns run until 10pm and start again at 7am. Avoid the far southern end near Colaba Market and Sassoon Dock in the mornings unless the smell of a working fish dock is neutral to you.
More on the neighbourhood, including how to move around it and what is worth walking to, is on the Colaba page.
What it costs
We do not hold a live rate for Hotel Celeste Colaba at the moment; hotels in Colaba on our list start at about ₹12,400 a night. Check the live price before you plan around a number — Mumbai rates move with the trade-fair and wedding calendars, and a room can double in the week of a large event.
November to February is the expensive season and the comfortable one. June to September — the monsoon — is the cheapest, and the rain is less of an obstacle than people expect if you plan around the mornings.

The location is great and close by to all the attractions. The rooms are filthy, bathroom is gross and the pillows and blankets are dirty and have stains on them. Some windows and doors don’t close properly and are quite stiff. The hygiene here is so poor we had to get dettol wipes and clean most of the room. It is…Aliyya Darji · 3/5
Visit the terrace garden only for location. Service is vey poor as staff are not interested nor inclined to serve or take orders or offer a table. Menu is limited and very average. A bowl of frech fries , one chilli chicken dry ,a mocktail and a beer will set you back by 2000 bucks ,but you are only paying this for…Minoo Mehta · 2/5
Had stayed at this place last year when I visited Mumbai for the Tata Lit Fest. It's at a walkable distance from Gateway. Decent breakfast and dinner options available. Room had huge windows and good height which gave it a bright and spacious aura esp for me who easily feels claustrophobic. Food tasted good (however…Vivek · 4/5
