What it is

The surrounding Alibaug district is one of the most convenient parts of Mumbai to stay in, with restaurants, cafés and transport links close by.

Where it sits

Diamond Guest House is in Alibaug, at Padder House 2 4 Sorabji Santuk Lane Church Lane Behind Parsi Dairy Dhobi Talao Metro, Mumbai. Straight-line, that is about 16 km from Terminal 2, 1 km from CSMT and the Fort offices, and 14 km from the Bandra Kurla Complex.

Road times in Mumbai are not a function of distance. Modelled at the city-wide average of about 17 km/h, that is roughly 57 minutes to the airport, 5 minutes to Fort and 48 minutes to BKC — add half again in the evening peak, and take the train instead wherever the route allows. These are modelled figures, not measured ones.

Staying in Alibaug

Three bands. Around Nagaon and Akshi, mid-range resorts and homestays run ₹4,500 to ₹8,000 a night in December, with beach access across the road rather than in front of you. Kihim and Awas, closer to Mandwa jetty and therefore the shortest transfer, hold the boutique villas and small luxury properties — ₹15,000 to ₹45,000 a night, whole-house bookings common, and the ones worth paying for have staff cooks and functioning generators. Alibaug town itself is cheap, ₹2,000 to ₹3,500, but you are in a market town with a beach five minutes away and mosquitoes. Avoid anything advertising itself as a beachfront resort on Alibaug main beach — the sand there is grey silt, the water shallow and murky, and the beach doubles as a road for horse carts. Also avoid the roadside places on the Alibaug–Revdanda stretch during weekends: tour groups, loudspeakers, no quiet.
